The Bachelor 16: Meet the Parents

So the past couple weeks Ben got the girls in the water with sharks and headed to their hometowns to (DUN DUN DUNNNN) meet the parents. Let’s break down the past couple episodes and see what our favorite mop-headed winemaker has gotten himself into.

So last week Ben took Lyndzi, Emily, and Courtney on one-on-one dates, all of which seemed to go swimmingly (foreshadowing!), after which he took the remaining three girls, Kacie B, Nicki, and Rachel, shark diving (insert Jaws theme song here). First off, the metaphors these writers come up with is ridiculous. On Courtney’s date, her and Ben climbed the steps of this ancient Mayan temple as Courtney talks about how in every relationship you take steps together and it’s making it to the top that counts (or some sappy shit like that, barf). Really? How long did it take them to come up with that one? Speaking of Courtney, the model we all know and love (hate), she tells Ben on their Mayan lovefest date that she hasn’t gotten along with the other girls and doesn’t even consider them to be women, calling them “vanilla” and boring. Ben just kind of takes it, though he admits he’s a little concerned to like a woman that most people don’t. On the shark diving date, the girls confide in Ben that Courtney doesn’t get along with any of them and seems malicious (Kacie B actually called her a “black widow”; I laughed).

Lo and behold, after taking her aside before the rose ceremony and confirming she’s totally in it “for the right reasons,” Courtney gets a rose anyways and ultimately Ben sends home Rachel and Emily before hometown dates. This was expected; nothing out of the ordinary so far. On to meeting the parents!

Ben’s visits with Lyndzi and Nicki’s families go smoothly. Lyndzi grew up actually really similar to me–Southern, only child, loving family. Parents support her and Ben. Nicki is very similar, though she was married once and is now divorced, and her parents similarly give her and Ben the stamp of approval.
Kacie B’s family, however, has their doubts. Not only is her dad a probation officer, but he also doesn’t drink. What in the world are him and his daughter’s boyfriend, a winemaker, going to have in common? As it turns out, not much. Both her parents are pretty skeptical of the whole thing, and to top it off, don’t support them moving in together before actually getting married (talk about old school), so, safe to say that could have gone better.

Courtney’s date, on the other hand, went better than I actually expected. Her family fell for Ben just like she claims she has, and her dad even brought up grandkids during his conversation with Ben. The main topic of their family visit, however, has got to be the creepy fake wedding Courtney set up to tell Ben that she loves him. They actually wrote vows. And Ben wore a bow tie (which Courtney had in her purse…weird) and yes, they did exchange rings. All in all, Courtney poured her heart out, Ben ate it up, and they didn’t actually get married. But they did make out. At the altar.

Rose ceremony was quite the event. After making the “hardest decision so far,” Ben sends home Kacie B. Not necessarily surprising after the way her family didn’t exactly welcome him with open arms, but sad nonetheless. Like the Southern lady she is, Kacie B handled it with grace, telling Ben not to apologize and saying she understood. She had quite the little meltdown once she was in the limo, however, yelling at the cameras, “WHAT THE F**K HAPPENED?!” Guess even Southern belles can’t always keep their composure.

I have a sinking feeling that Courtney’s going to make it to the end, despite the previews showing something of a big meltdown happening next week. Guess we’ll have to wait and see who wins Ben’s heart in the end!
