Yesterday was not only the official beginning of summer, but also France’s 30th anniversary of their nation-wide music festival,Fête de la Musique! Many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to the public. All concerts must be free to the public, and all performers donate their time for free. I was expecting something like SXSW but in Paris… so a million times more awesome, yet it was not so much of fête as I thought it would be. Due to difficulties getting around, metro stations closing down, and the vastness of the festival, it was basically impossible to see it all.
I, of course, went straight to the electro-house showcases. We started off at MTV’s Shake Ton Booty at the Bibliothèque National and boozed our own persy (personal) bottles of 3 € champagne… keepin’ it classy, y’all! We then migrated to an electro showcase on a bateau on the Seine. Now THAT was my scene. The producer of the electronic DJ Boys Noize, Les Petits Pilous, played a live set. Things got wild! Hundreds of college-aged kids, dancing, moshing, drinking, and simply enjoying themselves.
While at that show, yet again, I met 3 girls from Texas, 2 from A&M and the other from UT.
Aside from Fête de la Musique, last Thursday I saw Cage the Elephant in Paris with some girls from Austin. I have a friend from St. Ed’s who is studying in Angers, France, and she came in for the night to visit me and see the show. SUCH a dope concert! Small venue (reminded me of the Parish on 6th street) and not too crowded. And guess what happens again? I meet a fellow longhorn!
I swear Paris is FULL of Texans right now. Are you a Texan in Paris? Tweet me @kclementine49 ! Perhaps we can rendezvous!
